Birchbox

Upon the arrival of Fall, temperature drops, leaves wield and fall, and not to mention the feeling of gloom surfaces just as often as it rains. Today was one of those days. Midway during my walk home on the hidden staircase of Galer in pitch black at 5:30 pm, I caught myself surrounded by fallen leaves waiting to turn brown and to decompose. How depressing! Before it turns green and warm again, it’s only going to get gloomier and colder for the next couple of months. BUT, what a great surprise awaited for me when I got home! I had totally forgotten I had subscribed to a monthly beauty goodie bag last month – Birchbox!

Basically, you pay $10 a month for 4-5 deluxe samples of high-end and/or new cosmetic products. November is my first! I was uber excited as I was unboxing and unwrapping. There was definitely some effort in making it girly with pink wrapper, individualized with a personalized card, and environmental with boxes made from recycling! It certainly brightened up my day, although it was approaching the end. I have to say, receiving Birchbox gives me the perception that someone is thinking about me and looking out for me (although I am the one paying for it….) I know, how silly! But, I am just such a sucker for things like this.

And…how did Birchbox know I was running out of body lotion, need a concealer for my rapidly developing under eye dark circles, and looking a jolly seasonal nailposh? Yap, these are just some of the samples I got this month. Was it worth the $10? Although the deluxe samples are still way smaller than the actual products, it’s always so exciting when you are introduced to try new products and finding new favourites along the way. So, I think it’s worth the $10 a month to take that little risk every month and gifted with surprises of what Birchbox has to deliver to your doorstep.

Sky’s the limit

Reading CC’s fashion blog has made my heart and hands itch to write also something on my own blog, although my brain is only slowly powering up. Working full time in an enclosed office really makes me forget how infinite the sky is. Speaking of fashion and infinity, there are so many fashion pieces out there that allow you to be creative and affordable at the same time, meaning many ways in one. I have seen infinity scarfs that turn in sweaters and shawls, old collar shirts turn into skirts, etc. Recently, while I was browsing on Gilt, I came across infinity dresses, where one dress can be worn in gazillion styles! ONE DRESS! You know how much money can be saved? After googling some more information on this type of dress and some of its creations, I remembered I saw one of the styles my friend wore as a bridesmaid and fell in love with it instantly. Now, I am thinking of investing in one. Without farther ado, let me show some pictures of this amazing dress!

Look at this! I especially love the styles [1,3] and [3,3], so classy and cute! Apparently, this dress is in the top 10 for bridesmaids dresses, so there’s commonality and differentiation between bridesmaids (below). When my day comes, I’d definitely consider this option! Hah.

新的我

有一天有一个人也会开到我的光,对不对? :P

New repeat.

I did not really much pay attention to this song until a friend mentioned it to me. As I drive around the city, back and forth between home and here, the song has inevitably became a new repeat on the radio and, consequently, at my home away from home. While the vocal and the lyrics are like needles through the heart, the piano part adds a tad of lemon juice. Heh. I found a duet cover for the song. Love!

In transition

Look what I found? My long lost blog! Yup, it HAS been a while. I have been having some difficulties chasing myself in the past 2 months. Now that I have a 6-hour connecting flight at SFO to Shanghai, I finally have some down time to … reminisce? I regret not jotting anything down after each happening, leaving me with events rather than stories. Maybe it’s time start writing diaries again, without a keyboard, spelling check, or any interruptions from emails and facebook updates. It’ll just be me, myself, and I, and of course a notebook and a pen (doh!).

So what have I been up to … ? Well well well … chronologically … (the grocery list starts again)
- CC visited LA again, and had a blast again! Popped 3 tires! FUN!
- graduated and showed Mom around SoCal and Vegas
- lugged my 2-year life back to Vancouver
- Yuda and Dat came to visit Vancouver the first week I was back, and had a blast too!
- went to LA for a week, this time as a visitor, which made me miss LA even more.
- just when I felt very discouraged and unworthy, got a job offer! (the minions in me are wooting! lol
- was stressed over endless unpacking around the house and moving again.
- now I am at SFO updating my blog.

The past 2 months were filled with sleep deprivation, spontaneity, and surprises, and, yet, every moment was priceless! This transition from being a student onto the next stage of life is turning out to be seemingly better than I imagined and more than I would ask for. It sounds cheesy, but I do feel lucky and blessed that I have been given some pieces to my puzzle.  I just “gotta cha ‘em all” (hah) and do my best to finish puzzle while crossing my fingers that I don’t lose any pieces on the way!  … And then the scavenge hunt continues …
